What to Expect...
My style of portrait photography is lifestyle, photojournalistic and candid. My artistic vision is to capture those special moments in time that catch your child being themselves in a series of beautiful, colourful and natural photographs that you will treasure for a lifetime.
My aim is to make my children and family photo sessions relaxed, casual and fun so don’t expect formal poses or anything overly traditional! Sometimes I climb trees, crawl in flower beds or at the very least kneel in the dirt to get my special shots, so I'll be the one wearing jeans and a t-shirt;)
What we’ll do... To get a good selection of different photographs I will take a range of naturally posed as well as candid shots. The things we do will depend on the location the individual child, so every photo session will be as unique as your individual child!
We might walk around and explore the location to find different backdrops and with younger children I will usually just follow at a discreet distance as they explore and play.
How Long...
Photo sessions usually take 1-2 hours, sometimes less sometimes more depending on the child’s age, personality, mood, changes of clothes/nappies, location and the available light. For everyone to remain calm, relaxed and to have fun there is no pressure to get things done in a set time!
Location...
I am a natural light photographer, this means that photo sessions can be held where ever natural light is available – in your garden, at a local park, favourite picnic spot, playground, beach or farm – anywhere your child will be interested in exploring or having fun.
While I prefer natural backdrops, inside portraits can be done in areas where good natural light is available such as rooms with large windows or even under verandahs. Newborns and young babies session will need to be done indoors except in warm weather.
When...
Mid morning and mid afternoon are the best times for good natural lighting, but even midday is suitable if there is good open shade. Early morning and evening light can also create very dramatic photos. More important with younger children is choosing their 'good' time of day when they are usually the happiest and not hungry or tired and ready for a sleep!
